In 1955, following the collapse of the Eildon Emeralds, John Haugh and his flatmates founded the Garryowen GAA club in Melbourne, after sending Red and White jerseys to the newly formed St. Mary’s club in Sydney. Over the following decades, Garryowen became highly successful, winning numerous hurling and football titles, including 30 hurling championships and 23 football championships, and the club also established a Ladies Football team in 1998, who reached the league final in their inaugural year.
